Basic dialogue between Chidera and her mother Amara.

Chidera:
 

Nne, gini ka anyị ga-eri n’abalị taa? Mum, what will we eat tonight?
Amara (Mother):
 

 Nwa m, anyị ga-eri  akara. My child, we will eat akara.
Chidera:
 

Mana, achoghi m akara. But, I don’t want akara.
Amara (Mother):
 

Ginikwanụ ka ị chọrọ iri? What (then)do you want to eat?
Chidera:
 

Achọrọ m iri utara. I want to eat utara.
Amara (Mother):
 

Ngwanu, a ga m esi utara. Ok then, I will cook utara

DAILY ROUTINE

Ihe(ife) anyị na-eme n’ụtụtụ What we do in the morning
Anyị kulie/kulie (bilie/bulie) n’ụtụtụ We wake (get) up in the morning
Anyị ga ekpe ekpere We (go to) pray
Mgbe anyị mecha When we finish
M ga ekene (ekele* Imo dialect) nne na nna m. I greet my parents
M ga igba ọsọ (or/ ma ọ bụ) ịkụ ọkpọ I run (or) I box
“Ugonna ga gbo ọsọ/kuo ọkpọ” Ugonna will run or box
Anyi ga-asa ahụ, anyị mecha We shower, then (literal – we finish)
anyị ga-eyi ákwà, We wear our clothes
Bịa rie nri (nri n’ụtụtụ) Then we eat breakfast
Gabazie oru (or – ma ọ bụ) Ụlọ akwụkwọ Then we go to work (or) school
