Join us this Black History Month for our first Igbo Culture and Language Class for Kids!

Like many African groups, Igbos have a rich culture of dance, arts, music, storytelling, technologies, and philosophy.

The purpose of this event is to give children of Igbo descent (and others) an opportunity to learn more about Igbo culture, people and language. As well as give them the chance to interact with other children.

The event will be held at Deptford Lounge Library. (Room 6)


  • 2:00 – 2:30pm Arrival & Greetings

  • 2:30 – 2:50pm Introduction to Igbo Culture (+ Games)

  • 2:50 – 3:20pm Igbo Lesson (Simple words + Introductions)


  • 3:30 – 4:00 pm Igbo Mask Drawings (Mmanwu/ Masquerade)

  • 4:00 – 4:15 pm Folk Tale: The Feast in the Sky – Featuring the Igbo character Mbe (the crafty tortoise)

  • 4:15 – 4:25 pm Igbo language recap

  • 4:30 – 5:00 pm Parents collect children (the Library closes at 5 pm, please don’t be late).
